On the Downward Slide

Let's talk the last hurrah of the summer, and the coming COVID fall and winter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t want to be the harbinger of heartache, but fall and winter won’t be pretty for a lot of us. In addition to the regular flu season, we’ll still be navigating though a global pandemic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When temperatures drop, there will be no more patio dining. Or meeting for cocktails outside. We’ll need to move inside, which won't be an issue for some people, especially if you live in the southern part of the US.

But for those of us who live where the snow flies and the overnight temperatures are generally below freezing,  outdoor dining will come to an end soon. And I haven't eaten a single meal inside at a restaurant since February. That means we’ll be eating more -- or all -- meals at home, like we did in the spring.

It will be interesting to see what happens with schools at all levels. In-person classes? Hybrid classes? All on-line classes? How will that impact students long-term? How will teachers and professors adapt? How will parents juggle at-home school responsibilities with their own work-from-home obligations?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Speaking of working from home, it will be interesting to see what happens with office workers. Will they return to office buildings or continue working remotely?

Then, let's talk holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah. They will also be markedly different. Especially for families with kids away at school. Large indoor gatherings have proven to be virus-spreading opportunities. And not the good kind.

There seems to be a misconception that deployment of a vaccine will eradicate the virus, but that’s not how vaccines work.

Even with the impending heaviness ahead, we’re heading into the last holiday weekend of summer.

My hope for you is that you eek EVERY MOMENT of goodness out of this weekend!

Because I think you’ll need to draw from that memory bank again and again over the next 6 months.

Go. Do. Celebrate. Enjoy. But please, wear your mask. 💙
