Thoughts on New Year's Day
Jan 02, 20212020 was challenging in so many ways. Global pandemic. Political divisiveness. Economic struggle. Job loss, evictions, business closures.
â â â â â â â â â
But let me ask you — and I want you to answer honestly — was 2020 really a dumpster fire in your life?
â â â â â â â â â
Sure, there was inconvenience. And it was different than normal. Trips were canceled. Celebrations were canceled or postponed. Holidays looked different. Friends and families were not visited.
â â â â â â â â â
But don’t buy into the party-line that 2020 was wholly terrible. There were many things to be thankful for. I’m looking at you, selfless front-line workers, doctors and nurses, grocery store clerks, delivery truck drivers, and more.
â â â â â â â â â
There were also many lessons learned. Many priorities shifted. Many opportunities for growth.
â â â â â â â â â
Think about it: you faced some of the most emotionally difficult moments of your life, and you made it through.
â â â â â â â â â
ð You learned to pivot and shuffle priorities in a way that you haven’t had to in the past.
â â â â â â â â â
ð You learned not to take anything for granted, including your health, your wealth and your family.
â â â â â â â â â
ð You learned about the vital importance of connection and community. Maybe you found yourself asking for help for the first time in a very long time, and still you made it through.
â â â â â â â â â
While 2020 was hard on so many levels, it was also a year of growth and transformation.
â â â â â â â â â
âšA year of reprioritizing what is really important.
âšA year to be deliberate and selective.
âšA year to learn to say no without guilt.
âšA year that stripped us down and made us rethink and redefine what is vitally necessary.
â â â â â â â â â
There was goodness in 2020. In your haste to slam the book on the past year, don’t miss the gifts. â€ïž

Cheers to a healthy, prosperous and incredible year ahead! ð¥
